The Association held its 22nd Annual Convention and Nepalese New Year 2071 celebration at Britannia Country House Hotel, Manchester. The Annual Convention was a two day residential event.
The Annual General Meeting commenced on 19th April 2014, with President Puspa Shrestha chairing the AGM and welcoming everyone present. Members discussed various issues regarding the development of the organisation and its activities, including the Annual Report and Financial Report of the Association submitted by General Secretary Bijay Shrestha and Dr Yogendra Bajracharya respectively.
During the meeting members from Hyndburn Rotary Clubs, North West England gave an illustrative presentation on a Drinking Water and Sanitation Project run by the Club that provides for 60 households and 400 school children in Maikot Village, Gorkha, Nepal. The total cost of the project is £45,000. The Association thanked the members of the Rotary Clubs for the valuable work they are undertaking in remote villages in Nepal.
Members and British friends across the UK, including the Chief Guest Charge d Affaires’ Mr Tej Bahadur Chhetri & Mrs Rita Chhetri enjoyed the Annual Convention Dinner and also enjoyed the evening entertainment.
New Year celebration
The Association celebrated the Nepalese New Year 2071 on 20th April 2014. A large number of Nepalese and British friends attended the event; enjoying delicious Nepalese cuisine and the beautiful Nepalese folk dances and music performed by Manila Balami, Kriti Khanal, Shruti Khanal, Kamali Adhikari, Sonia Dhimal, Sweta Dhimal, Tisa Pradhan and Diya Gurung.
President Puspa Shrestha extended New Year greetings to all and thanked everyone for their participation in the event. The Charge d Affaires’ Mr Chhetri commended the Association for its valuable contribution to the community and wished all present a Happy New Year.
Congratulations to Parbuti Rana who was awarded this year’s Woman of the Year Award.
